Playa de los Muertos, possibly the best known of all beaches
The beach of the dead is not considered a "cove", but we don't want to leave it unmentioned as it is a place that you must visit if you go to Cabo de Gata. This is a large beach with possibly the clearest waters in the area. Its location is well known, you will not find it difficult to find, but to access the beach itself will cost you a little walk down the somewhat slow descent. But it's worth it, really. Plomo Cove
The cove of El plomo is quite far away from the urban centres, being Las Negras the closest town at 3km. Here you will find a large cove of about 200m in length and even if you see that the cove starts with stones, as you get closer to the sea, you will see that it becomes a sandy cove where you will have a sandy shore and easy access to the water.
On both the right and left side of the Plomo cove you will see that there are eroded walls formed by fossil dunes where you can spend some time exploring. Here's more about everything you need to know and everything you can find and do in the Plomo Cove.
Enmedio Cove
Unlike Plomo beach, Cala de Enmedio is an entire beach of fine golden sand. It is somewhat smaller, about 150 metres, but in the summer months it gets quite crowded, although it is not as crowded as other coves and beaches on some Spanish coasts. During the low season months you will find Cala de Enmedio very quiet. Besides, you should know that this is a very virgin beach and that you won't have any kind of service at hand, but if you take your water and snacks with you we can say that it is the perfect cove, as it is only accessible on foot or by boat. Calilla del Playazo
To get to know the coves of Cabo de Gata you must also visit the Calilla del Playazo, which is one of the most visited thanks to its location and easy access. It is very close to Las Negras, so it will not be difficult to get there.
In this cove you will find impressive and very curious fossil dunes as well as crystal clear water. In high summer season you will see it quite crowded, so if you want to go there during these dates, we recommend you to do it early in the morning. Find out more about it at this article.
Playazo de Rodalquilar
When we talk about the coves of Cabo de Gata and we mention the "playazo", many people confuse the Calilla del Playazo with the Playazo de Rodalquilar, and they are not two different coves, even though they are next to each other. In this cove you will feel very, very comfortable, we are sure. Behind you will have a rocky wall and cliff, typical of the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata and in front of you you will have crystal clear and clean water to enjoy its marine flora and fauna with some snorkelling excursions.
The access to the beach is very easy, so it is possible that on some summer days you will find it quite crowded, plus it has a very comfortable access to the water and a child-friendly shingle, so it is also very pleasant for families and children. On one side of the Playazo de Rodalquilar is located the Castillo De San Ramon, which is a defensive bastion from the 18th century. Learn more secrets about this cove of Cabo de Gata here.
Isleta del Moro
The Isleta del Moro cove is located in the village called "Isleta del Moro", and is one of the villages that despite the development of the last few years, has managed to preserve the peaceful seaside atmosphere that it has always had. It is true that in summer this tranquillity is lost a lot, so if you have the opportunity, visit it during any sunny day in the low season. And if you have no choice but to go in summer, hey, the village and its cove are just as beautiful and have the same vibe all year round. From the beach you will see a small island which is the reason for the name of the village.
Don't think that just because it's a village and a small cove you'll be bored... not at all. In fact, here are two activities you can do on your visit to Isleta del Moro.
Genoveses Beach
This beach is one of the largest in Cabo de Gata, as it occupies an entire bay of more than one kilometre in length. Playa de los Genoveses is surrounded by dunes full of the typical vegetation of the Cape, full of pitas and prickly pears. One of the things we most appreciate about this beach is that in the north there is a small "forest" where people usually take refuge from the midday sun in the summer months.
The entrance to the water of this beach is quite progressive and very comfortable, so here you will find many families and children who come to spend the summer days. We must take into account that it faces east, and this means that on windy days it is not very pleasant to be resting on the beach, although on the other hand, these days are ideal for windsurfing.
