San Ramon Castle and volcanic cliffs

Located in the Playazo de Rodalquilar, this 18th century fortress is a privately owned Asset of Cultural Interest. It is an added value of this beautiful beach in Almería and we explain why.
In addition to the panoramic view that is created with the castle on the top of the coast and the sea at its feet, this construction has history, as it was built under the command of Charles III to defend the Rodalquilar mines where gold and lead were mined, so that pirates could not appropriate these goods.

The castle is built on a fossilised dune which is a true spectacle to behold, a beauty of great scenic value, from which you can enjoy marvellous views of the Playazo de Rodalquilar and of the La Molata cliffs.

In the southern part of the Playazo de Rodalquilar the sand gives way to an area of rock formations where we can find a great deal of underwater life thanks to the little human activity that takes place at this point, let's say it is its wildest side.
If you wander around the area you will come across a rocky shape that looks like a natural jetty known as the Los Calentones.
In this area we can find people who choose the nudist route to enjoy this incredible beach.

Bergantín Cove

If we head towards the right side of the Playazo, the side opposite the Castillo de San Ramón, we will reach the El Romeral Hill and we can find a small cove where the water is completely crystalline and is very calm thanks to the shelter it has from the wind. Bergantín Cove.
It is a cove that is approximately 2 kilometres from the car park and access is complicated, so we recommend that you wear good footwear to avoid incidents and once you reach the cove you will have to change for booties or trainers that fit your feet as access to the bathing area is somewhat difficult due to the large number of stones.
