La Isleta del Moro

La Isleta del Moro is one of the few villages that still conserves a peaceful, fishing and seafaring atmosphere. It is quite normal that as soon as we arrive we start walking and end up in the jetty area, next to the breakwater. This is a picture postcard image that you will always remember. Its tranquillity and atmosphere are fairytale-like.

When you are at the jetty, if you turn left, you will see an islet in the water. This islet is the reason which is why the town was called La Isleta del Moro (the Moor's Islet). In fact, in many places you will hear it called La Isleta del Moro Arraez, and this is because it was Mohamed Arraez, a former Berber, who called the town that name.

What to see in Isleta del Moro

One of the first things to do in La Isleta del Moro is to visit the viewpoints of the small town, visit the jetty and the small islet and then go and enjoy the local gastronomy, which of course is mainly based on seafood (there are other options too, of course).

Another plan you should do here is hiking in Isleta del Moro to really enjoy the unspoilt beauty of the surroundings. As you may know, this small town is also located within the Cabo de Gata Natural Park.

The first route we would like to share with you is the one of the trail Isleta del Moro to the Playa de los Toros. This one is a bit more complicated, as it is not signposted, but when you reach the end, you will find a solitary beach (in winter) with a lot of vegetation, this beach is called the Cala del Barranco Negro de los Toros. We recommend this route to the more adventurous, although this beach can be reached by road. However, it is not so easy to find. It is a little before the Mirador de las Amatistas.

Another route that you can do in Isleta del Moro is the one that goes to the Los Escullos Beach. This section is signposted and is very easy. It is only 3.5 kilometres, including the idea and the return journey. To get to the start of the route you will have to go to the viewpoint of the village along the slope that starts at the square/parking area. This route actually ends at the beach of the arches, another of which we advise you to visit as it is very attractive with its fossilised dunes.

La Isleta del Moro

Visiting the beaches of Isleta del Moro is very easy, as you will find it very easily. The Peñon Blanco beach is located right next to the village, you can't get lost, and here you can relax and enjoy the sun in peace and quiet. The seabed of this beach is sandy, so you only need a towel. Besides, its waters are crystal clear, so you can also take your snorkel and mask with you. Another thing you should know about Peñón Blanco beach is that nudism is allowed.

The ideal way to enjoy these beaches of the Isleta del MoroThe best time to visit is during the months that are not high season, as in summer these beaches are very crowded (and no wonder, because the surrounding area is a marvel). But in the busy summer months you can leave a little bit of lying on the sand and the sun aside and take to the water and go kayaking. A visit to: Kayak route in Cabo de Gata is one of the main activities we recommend. This way you will be able to reach the islet without any problems and enjoy the views of the entire coast of Almeria.

And if you have brought your snorkel and mask, you will be able to discover the seabed and the posidonia in the area, as the clean waters are more conducive to seeing EVERYTHING.
