Cala del Plomo is another of the coves of Cabo de Gata that is far from the urban centres. The closest locality to the Plomo Cove is Las Negras, which is about 3 kilometres away, and on the other side is Agua Amarga.
This cove is a relatively large cove, as it is more than 200 metres long. You will probably see it in many lists of the most beautiful beaches of Cabo de Gata, and no wonder. People come here to relax and do some kayaking to enjoy the coast and its waters.
There are also those who say that it is a nudist beach, although here you will find a variety of people who will practice nudism and those who will not.
Why should you visit Cala del Plomo?
If we tell you that access to Cala del Plomo is not very easy, we know that this will make you want to visit it even more. We all know that coves with more complicated access tend to be less crowded, and more and more of us are looking for this tranquillity in beaches.
We are very sure that you will love Cala del Plomo, not only for its tranquillity compared to other coves, but also for its crystal clear waters. Remember that this is also a cove far away from the restaurant services, so don't forget your water and snacks to get you through the day. And above all, leave the area as clean as it was.
Is the Cala del Plomo sandy or pebbly?
We can say that the cove of the Lead is made of sand and stonesand we are going to explain it to you. The beginning of the cove is full of stones, but as you get closer to the shore, they disappear and you will find fine sand. Therefore, your swim in the sea will be comfortable and on sand.
The depth of the beach is progressive, in fact, you will have to go in quite a few metres to be covered. So it is an ideal cove for the little ones. Also in Cala del Plomo you can find places to explore among its fossilised dunes on both sides of the cove. And if you want an interesting fact about this, on the south side of the Cala del Plomo, when you pass the Cortijada de el Plomo, you will see a kind of rock that is known as the Punta del Plomo and this is so called because in the past there was a watchtower from where they controlled the threat of the Barber Pirates.
How to get to Cala del Plomo
The usual way to get to Cala de Plomo is by following the route that Google Maps gives you until you reach the Cala del Plomo car park (or Cala de Enmedio, as they share a car park). We warn you that until you reach the car park you will drive along a 7 kilometre road that is not asphalted, it is a dirt road full of potholes and stones (but you won't need a 4×4 to reach your destination, if that's what you had in mind).
On this path you can make a stop because you will come across the Fortified Cortijo de la Rambla del Plomo which was built between the 17th and 18th centuries. This Cortijo was used to protect the peasants of the area from the Barbary pirates. By the way, if you spend more days in the Cabo de Gata area, we also recommend you to make the Pirate's Route excursion.
