Los Genoveses beach is an unspoilt beach of fine golden sand dunes, which in my opinion is the most beautiful and spectacular beach on the Almeria coast. Many people are looking for activities in Cabo de Gata.
It is a beach that, as soon as you walk on it, the sensation it conveys is that it is a wild, arid and rugged place in appearance, but you should know that you are walking through an extremely delicate spot. In fact, they say that stepping on the beach of Los Genoveses and discovering this place is the closest thing to having your soul ripped out. This is very touchy in the eyes of the beholder, but I can assure you that it is a beach that will not leave you indifferent.
If you have in your head the concept of a beach as a place of sand, waves and a sea breeze, this beach in Almeria will shatter your concept of a beach.
The beach of the Genoese: The fusion between the desert and the sea
This beach is more than one kilometre long and occupies the whole bay. The beach is surrounded by dunes with the typical Almerian vegetation of prickly pears and pitas or high pitaco agaves.
This beach is considered ideal for families, as it is a beach with a very gradual entry into the sea, in fact, if you are looking for depth, you will have to go quite deep to get it. That is why it is quite common to find families on this beach during the summer season.
However, we must also bear in mind that this is a beach that if there is an easterly wind, there may be a tide and weather conditions that are not very recommendable for children. In fact, if you go there on a windy day, you will see an infinity of kitesurfers practising their sport.
The southern part of the beach is enclosed by the Morrón de Genoveses, a hill that from its top offers a privileged view of the beach, the Campillo del Genoveses, San Jose and part of the Natural Park.

Why is it called the beach of the Genoese?
The origin of its name comes from the invasion of a Genoese fleet that helped the Castilian troops in their fight against the Muslims and landed there in 1447 as part of that campaign. Since then, the flag of the capital of Almería has been the same as that of Genoa.
How to get to Los Genoveses
It is a virgin bay, with no buildings, no power lines, no beach bars, practically no roads, however, to access this beach of Cabo de Gata you can go, the best option is to walk, as it is located just a few kilometres from the town of San José. However, if you are going to go on very hot days, you should know that you can also go by car.
Between 15 June and 16 September, access to this area of the Natural Park by car is severely restricted, as the increase in road traffic is a factor of environmental degradation in these enclaves of high ecological value.
So if you want to go by in your own vehicle, the best thing to do is to get up early, or take the bus from San José to Los Genoveses beach and its two beautiful neighbouring beaches: Consul and the Cala de la Media Luna cove.
If you decide to walk, I recommend that you enjoy this route. It is a route without any complexity but with infinite nuances of the geology of Almería. It smells of sea salt, dust and arid areas. I think that very few places in the rest of the country give you a similar sensory experience.
As you reach the vicinity of the beach, in the distance you will see the Morrón de los Genoveses, a volcanic promontory 85 metres high, which is the icon of this beach in Almería.

Nudism in Genoveses
Los Genoveses beach is not considered a nudist beach in Almeria, however, in the months before or after the summer season (April, May or October) it is common to see nudist bathers, who tend to concentrate on the northern part of the beach.
