Cala de los Motores, a hidden treasure

The Los Motores Cove is one of the hidden treasures of Cabo de Gata and for this reason, for us, it is one of the most enjoyable spots. Its waters are crystal clear and here you can enjoy them almost on your own. It is a rather inaccessible cove, but it is worth visiting and enjoying.

Where is the Cala de los Motores?

The cove is located (or hidden) in the Cabo de Gata, very close to the village of Fabriquilla in the Cabo de Gata Natural Park. Specifically, it is about 36km from Almería city.

The fact that it is a cove with difficult access does not mean that it should not be on our list of places to visit in Cabo de Gata, on the contrary. It is an unspoilt, quiet and spectacular place that we must visit if we want to.

How to get to Cala de los Motores?

If you want to know how to get to Cala de los Motoreswe are going to give you three ways. The first would be to walk down the cliff. It is quite complicated, in fact we recommend that you don't go in flip-flops, but rather that you wear good shoes. However, don't do it loaded with luggage such as coolers and lots of bags, as you will need feet and hands to go down the cliff. And we recommend that if you are afraid of heights, don't do it. It can be done and many people do it, but we warn you that it is dangerous and it is not a safe way to go down. you have to be careful.

The second is by being lucky. Yes, being lucky, you read that right. Because there are days when the low tide quite low (which is not normal), then you can walk to the Cala de los Motores from the Fabriquilla beach.

And the third one is the one we enjoy the most and the one you make the most of your time, and that is accessing the sea by kayak. Go to the Cala de los Motores in Kayak gives you the experience of visiting more coves and enjoying the sights that the coast of Cabo de Gata has to offer.

Los Motores Cove

The cala de los Motores is a nudist coveSo if you don't intend to go nudist (because everyone goes as they please) remember to have respect for those who do go nudist.

As we have said before, this is a secluded cove and its location is very sheltered, so we will be protected from the wind in case it is windy that day. The waters here are very clean, and this is great because the seabed is sandy, and if we add to this that the water is crystal clear, we can enjoy turquoise colours that you will fall in love with.

The cove is not small at all, it is about 130 metres long and normally about 7 metres wide. More than enough for you to enjoy the tranquillity of this hidden treasure.

And if you were wondering why it is called the Cala de los Motores, we'll tell you. This is due to its proximity to the engines that extract the water from the sea that goes to the area of the salt pans (next to the Fabriquilla). But don't worry, you won't see or hear it. In this cove you can expect a day of relaxation and peace.
