Half Moon Cove

La Cala de la Media Luna, a cove of fine sand belonging to the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Maritime Terrestrial Natural Park, in the province of Almería. You can imagine what the name Media Luna is due to, and it is indeed because of its shape, as it has a crescent shape. If you are looking for peace and quiet, this is one of the coves you should visit in Cabo de Gata, as it always has a quiet atmosphere, and like many other coves in the area, in this little corner of the coast, you can find swimmers with swimming costumes and naturists. The length of the cove is about 185 metres and a width of around 37 metres.

La cala de la media luna, a treasure of the Almeria coastline

Access to the Media Luna cove is from the road to the western beaches that leaves from the town of San José. If you know the beach of Mónsul, next is Media Luna. For us this cove is a treasure in the Cabo de Gata Natural Park, although if you have been there you will know that many of the coves and beaches can be considered treasures. This cove is somewhat different from others, as its sand is fine but with a dark tone. You will not see a paradisiacal Thai landscape, but you will see a natural landscape of the area, clean, virgin, unique and quiet, as its waters are always very calm.

During the whole year, except July and August, this cove is really quiet, but during the high season months, it gets a bit more crowded. It is true that it is almost never crowded, and this is one of the good things about this cove and other unspoilt coves in the area, as they are further away from the urban centres, they tend to be less visited and receive fewer bathers.

Do you want to know what activities you can do in this area?
cala de la media luna cove Cabo de Gata

As we have already mentioned, the Media Luna cove is far from urban centres, so you won't have any services such as restaurants, toilets, shops, etc... Remember to take your water and snacks with you if you are going to spend the day on this wonderful beach in Cabo de Gata. And of course, remember to take everything you brought with you. One of the attractions of these unspoilt coves on the coast of Almeria is its natural, untouched appearance and the cleanliness that there is always on the beaches, so we always remember to respect this and to be considerate of other people and of nature itself.

One of the most beautiful and attractive things about the Media Luna cove is, in fact, how isolated it is from urban centres, houses, housing developments and everything else, so whoever is looking for this, is going to spend a relaxing day in a natural paradise. Another way to enjoy the cove is to discover it on board of a kayak with a Kayak excursion on your ownand in this way you can follow your route and get to know the nearby coves.

Where is the Media Luna cove and how to get there?

To enter Cala de la Media Luna, when you are arriving by car, you have to look for the AL-3115 road, which is the closest road to this beach. Here we leave you the location so that you can get there safely.

Parking in the Cala de la Media Luna cove is very easy, as the cove itself has a car park where you can park around 50 cars. In high season, if you arrive a little early, you're sure to park, and the rest of the year, you'll have plenty of space.

If you are travelling by public transport around Cabo de Gata you won't have any problems getting to the cove because there is a bus service that goes to many coves and one of them is the Media Luna.
